Only in This World

Only in this world do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in this world do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions  while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in this world do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a diet Coke.

Only in this world do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in this world do we have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Books of April

The Golden Couple.  Pretty good thriller about a couple visiting an unorthodox therapist.\\

Heiresses.  Non-fiction book about famous heiresses from women kidnapped for money in the 18th century to  millionaire women of today, some happy but most not, inspite of their wealth.

The Thursday Murder Club.  If you live in a retirement home, are thinking of living in a retirement home, or know someone who lives in a retirement home, trust me, you'll love this story about four seniors who solve murders and who sometimes collaborate with the police and sometimes outwit them, The first of three books so far in this series.

Work Freaks.  I enjoy playing Scrabble...for fun.  This book was written by a reporter who researched professional Scrabble players, most of whom devote their lives (seriously) to memorizing lists of two-letter through10-letter words, play in tournaments and in short, are obsessed with Scrabble.  The author becomes equally obsessed.

Scrabble Strategy.  Yes, I read this too.  Reading both convinced me that Scrabble is fun but it shouldn't run your life.

The Reading List.  A sweet book about people who discover a list of novels made by an anonymous person and how their lives intersect.  Enjoyable for anyone who likes to read.  And then, you can read all the books on this mysterious list.
