Birthday Gift from Me for Me: Decisions

My birthday is coming up this month.  I'm not saying which one, just that it's a two-digit number with a lot of tens in it.  Anyway, I've decided I should give myself an iphone4s.  Or maybe I shouldn't.

On the one hand:
My current phone is so twentieth century.  You actually have to open it and it has no apps.
I'll have someone to talk to me (Siri, or whateveer her name is) when I'm lonely.
I'll be able to play Words with Friends.
I can take pictures without lugging my camera around.
        I can check the weather.
        I'll look like everyone else.

On the other hand:
An iphone costs more per month than the phone I have.
Do I need to be connected to the Internet all day long?
Do I want to be connected to the Internet all day long?
I can check the weather by looking outside.
       I'll look like everyone else.

Decisions, decisions.   Any advice would be appreciated.

Thelma, my husband and I are both still resisting smartphones. I'm not sure how long we can hold out. We are still firm believers that our phones are for phoning. We sometimes text, but other than that, we think we can live without all the bells and whistles and save the extra $ per month. Good luck with your decision. I know it isn't easy!

Happy Birthday. I still use a little phone that is just a phone and I get along fine. I can text if I need to but mostly I use it to talk to people. (What a concept!)

I do get smartphone envy from time to time when there's a question and someone whips out their phone and goes online to find the answer. But my biggest issue is size. I'm one of those rare women who doesn't carry a purse. My little phone fits nicely in my pocket. A smartphone - not so much. Good luck deciding what to do.

I didn't have a smartphone until late last year when a relative sold me hers when she upgraded. I mainly wanted the GPS capability, and imagined that I would use far more apps than I actually do. However, it is more useful to me than my former phone, and I find that I do text a bit more now that I have an actual 'keyboard.' Not that I do that a whole lot, but nice to send short messages sometimes rather than email or placing a call. Just my experience...I do like it.
